Upon the reveal of the Galaxy S4 there was a question that was left unanswered, a rather important one. Will the GS4 have Samsung's own Octa-core Exynos 5 or Qualcomms Quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor? It was well known that its predecessor, the Galaxy SIII, varied similarly depending on region. Samsung UK have confirmed that it is the Quad-core Snapdragon 600 in the UK variant clocked at 1.9Ghz. This is the same processor found in the HTC One. This gives the GS4 and HTC One another similarity at least on paper. If you are planning on buying a Galaxy S4 soon and you feel somewhat distraught about it not having an 8-core processor: Don't be. The Octa-core processor uses only 4 cores at a time switching from a low power processor to a much more powerful one when needed. Samsung's choice of processor shouldn't really impact the performance so it won't make much difference to the end user but it is a significant factor when buying a phone from a power users perspective who will most likely want a processor that will play nice with custom ROMs. |
