The Nexus 7 was released almost a year ago with some rather impressive specifications at a very low price point. Its unique selling point: Receiving timely updates on the latest and greatest version of Android. This became the ideal choice for casual users and power users who were in the market for a 7" tablet.
So the next Nexus is just around the corner and there are a few changes and similarities that are rumoured for the July release:
So the next Nexus is just around the corner and there are a few changes and similarities that are rumoured for the July release:
Price
On the Google Play store, the prices for the Nexus 7 are quite cheap when compared to other tablets in the 7" form factor. If things go as rumours suggest, the next iteration of the Nexus 7 will be priced roughly the same which means that if you're not in any hurry, it will be wiser to wait for a little while longer for it to come out.
Hardware
This rather blurry image of the upcoming Nexus is most likely to be fake but you may just notice that there is a much smaller border surrounding the display. From a design perspective, it will look a lot more appealing much like its competitor the iPad mini.
Software
The Nexus brand is a promise from Google that the device will receive the latest, unadulterated version of Android as soon as it is released. There are hopes that this device will bring forward the next iteration of Android Jelly Bean (4.2.2) preloaded. This will be the spear head Google's war with lack luster performance and lag.
Specifications
The unannounced Nexus 7, during one of its tests at FCC, had revealed that it was being powered a SnapDragon 600 processor. A significant improvement on the previous models Tegra 3 processor which will have a better focus on battery life and a lag free (read: reduced) experience. It was also listed that the there would be a 5 Megapixel camera rear camera which is an entirely new addition since the current Nexus 7 only has a front facing camera. We now know that the battery will have a capacity of 4,000 mAh, 325 mAh less than the current Nexus but that could change in the near future as this is only a test device. A 4G version is in testing but its certain to be available as an optional extra. Rumours point towards a higher resolution of 1080 x 1920 but there has been no solid evidence of it yet.
